A collection of three oil paintings on canvas by Haitian painter Jean-Pierre Yves (b. 1942) of Haitian mythology scenes. The first work depicts a nude woman laying on a stone at the bottom of the ocean floor. She is surrounded by a squid and octopus and fish. Included is a painting depicting the same woman who has know awaken with the octopus at her side. In the background is a shark with the sun setting to the upper center of the composition. Also included is a depiction of a mermaid sitting on a tree within a lush landscape. She reaches down towards the dolphin with a fish in her hand. Per family lore these works are part of a folkloric tale of a young woman’s transformation symbolizing personal growth via shift of enemy to friend. These works are signed ‘J-Pierre Yves’ to the lower corners of the canvas. All works are presented unframed.
