Item Details
A pair of oil paintings of Santa Claus. One of the two, rendered on canvas and marked ‘New York, Dec. 25, 1911’ to its lower left corner, depicts the white-bearded in a fur cap, the ends of his mustache groomed to point jauntily upward. The accompanying piece is painted on wooden panel and depicts a gray-haired figure with a red cloak about his shoulders. The painting on canvas is illegibly marked with the artist’s name to its lower right corner, and the piece on panel has an unreadable estate stamp to its verso. Neither has hanging hardware.
Condition
- poor; cracquelure and paint loss throughout both; heavy wear to edges of both; areas of fading; discoloration to verso of canvas.
