Edgar Yaeger Oil Painting on Canvas Still Life
Item Details
An oil painting on canvas of a still life by well-listed American artist Edgar Yaeger (1904-1997), created in 1935. This still life features an arrangement of hunting objects including a fowl and a rifle set on a wood surface. The work is portrayed in a post-impressionist style with vibrant colors, dark outlines, and and sense of flatness throughout the composition. It is signed and dated to the lower right. Presented in a carved beige wood frame with light green accents. Handwriting to the verso indicates that the frame was constructed by Yaeger. Included with the composition is a brochure about the artist from Cincinnati Art Galleries, LLC.
Known for his modern abstract style and his WPA murals of the Depression era, Yaeger was influenced by European modernists such as Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso, and Giorgio de Chirico. Yaeger’s work has been exhibited at many institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Detroit Institute of Art, the Corcoran Gallery, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, among others.
