A charcoal drawing on paper titled Leona by well-listed American artist Edgar Yaeger (1904-1997), created in 1967. This work features a three-quarter view portrait of a seated woman holding a propped umbrella. The work is signed and dated to the lower left. It is presented under glass with off-white matting, and housed in a mauve painted wood frame. A descriptive label is adhered to the verso. The composition is accompanied by a brochure on the artist from Cincinnati Art Galleries, LLC.
Known for his modern abstract style and his WPA murals of the Depression era, Yaeger was influenced by European modernists such as Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso, and Giorgio de Chirico. Yaeger’s work has been exhibited at many institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Detroit Institute of Art, the Corcoran Gallery, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, among others.
