Item Details

A quite rare partial cast and patinated bronze chess set including pieces and table by Daved Pritchard. This piece is titled The Arthurian Chess Set and includes cast playing pieces and board integrated into a sculpted table. The playing pieces together with the table tell a compiled mythological storyline of King Arthur with playing pieces depicting Arthur and Guinevere with their retinue of Christians against Mordred and Morgause with their retinue of Druids. The table includes tile inlays set in a checkerboard pattern, including slate and cast symbols of Celtic, Arthurian, and Druid designs. The top rests into a molded frame including detailed cast aprons with figural relief moldings. The table rises up on carved figural legs including gryphon knees ending in ball and claw feet. Comes with paperwork and provenance about the artist.
