Handwoven "Hookah and Tea" Pictorial Rug/Wall Hanging

A handwoven pictorial rug/wall hanging. This wool piece depicts seventeen men, most with their heads covered, in fezes, caps, and wraps. Some are smoking hookahs, some drinking tea; one waits tables, while another prepares pipes. Above all are the wide branches, leaves, and flowers of a tree with a blue and brown trunk. The palette is cream, cocoa, cerulean, olive green, dark mocha, and mauve. Selvedges are double overcast, the rug finishing at the sides with long wool warp fringe. It is unlabeled.
