Antique Hand-Knotted Chinese Nichols Accent Rug

An antique Chinese Nichols accent rug. This wool rug is hand-knotted in a palette of taupe, midnight blue, peach, terracotta, sapphire and cream. It begins with a taupe field framed by a wide border in midnight blue. Originating in the border and spilling into the field are three elements. These include a vase at the lower right corner with a fanciful bouquet; a butterfly near the left corner; and, at the upper left, strings of flowers and a tiered chandelier with three pendants, which reach into the center of the field. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at one end with wool warp fringe and at the other with a partial kilim skirt and fringe. It is tagged on the reverse.
