A collection of zoological etchings on paper, thought to be illustrations designed by artist Samuel Davenport (1783-1867) for Oliver Goldsmith’s (1728-1774), A History of the Earth and Animated Nature. This assortment of fourteen includes studies of antelopes, dogs, and ‘big’ cats such as the lynx and cougar. The bookplate numbers and animal names are printed in italicized script outside of the illustration areas and all of the group are presented unframed.

Condition

- paper is discolored, stains throughout the image area; outside edges are torn and creased.
