Mexican Votive Painting on Metal

A Mexican votive painting in oil on a metal ground. This piece depicts a crucified Christ in the upper left, surrounded by clouds, and two figures swimming through a river with a horse, saddle vacated, in the water with them and a man on the shore reaching out. There is a section of Spanish writing to the lower edge of the piece thanking Saint John the Baptist for sending help when a man by the surname y Domingo Venabides was going to Teocaltiche and fell off his horse into the river in June of 1891. It is unsigned and unframed.
Condition
- warping to metal; discoloration and accretion to surface; craquelure and chips throughout paint; paint worn off significantly in lower corners; large scrape on right side; hole to center top from hanging.
