An East Asian gouache and ink painting of a landscape on on silk. This richly-colored piece depicts a rocky stream bordered by trees and mountains, the whole composition scattered with patchy fog. A path making its way uphill can be seen to the right side, along with a short line of calligraphic text and a red signature seals. The painting is presented under glass in a dark frame and includes a hanging wire to its verso along with a note partially reading ‘Probably Japan, circa 1911-17, I believe brought home by missionary who was in Japan approx. the years listed above.’

- fair; large chips and edge wear to frame; buckling to silk; toning; slightly dusty.
