1941 Offset Lithograph "Stratoliner Club" Certificate

A 1941 offset lithograph Stratoliner Club certificate. The certificate from Transcontinental & Western Air, Inc. (TWA) depicts a stylized image of a propeller airplane flying above the clouds in a bright blue sky. It is personalized to Angeline Backs and certifies that she ‘traveled in the first commercial transport designed to fly at altitudes of approximately three and one-half miles . . . as one of a small group of distinguished air travelers who have participated in the historical development of the science of upper-altitude flight’ and signed by the airline’s president. The certificate is mounted under glass in a red painted wood frame with gilt trim and is fitted with a cord for hanging.

Condition

- print is slightly discolored; worn frame finish; stains to the paper backing.
