Circa 1920 Hand Knotted Persian Tabriz Rug
Item Details
An antique hand-knotted Persian Tabriz rug, circa 1920. A lavish array of three nested medallions fills the center body of this antique Persian rug, each arranged concentrically to form a beautifully colored design reminiscent of a hamsa. Each layer of the antique Persian Tabriz rug is backed in a different hue from the next, changing more frequently nearer the center, which seems to lead endlessly on with ever smaller components. The detailed medallions in the middle sets the theme, and each level brims with lovely blossoms formed with delicate stitches. Smooth curves joined with bold angles form arabesque boundaries between each zone of this rug. Overlapping figures continue up through each of the four corners of this large size rug, and an elaborate set of borders surrounds the central area. Bands full of multi-colored flowers and leaves flank a broad strip, the primary border, which is full of ornate, flowering decorations. The rug is finished with a natural warp fringe.
