Vintage Villeroy and Boch "Aurora" Phanolith Framed Plaque After Guido Reni

A vintage limited edition Villeroy and Boch phanolith plaque. This plaque is titled, Aurora, after the similarly titled fresco by Guido Reni (1575 – 1642). A 1978 limited edition plaque in cobalt blue and white. Phanolith plaque shows Reni’s Aurora which depicts Apollo on his chariot surrounded by several women representing the hours, following Dawn, or Aurora, with the cherub holding a fiery torch, which represents the morning star. Phanolith is a kind of porcelain that combines the attributes of jasperware and Pâte-sur-pâte (French term meaning paste on paste) which is a method of porcelain decoration in a relief design. In a gold and silver-toned painted gesso and wood frame. Marked to the lower left corner with initials and ‘’78.’ Hallmark impressed to back. Limited edition number 2213 out of 5000. Made in Germany.
