Antique Edmund Willis Oil Painting on Canvas "The Hunters"
Item Details
An 1873 original oil painting on canvas titled The Hunters by listed artist Edmund Aylburton Willis (British-American, 1808-1899). The painting depicts a pair of hunters and their dogs gathered in a clearing in the forest. The spoils of the day, a solitary rabbit, lay at the feet of one of the hunters, as the dogs appear to have discovered another and several deer observe the scene from afar. The painting is signed and dated to the lower right. Presented in a gold tone and black beveled wood frame, with the title engraved on a brass plaque to the base. A hanging wire is present to the verso.
Condition
- extensive craquelure and light accretion to painting surface. Yellowing to varnish. Wear to finish of frame.
