Edward Volkert Oil Painting on Board of Grazing Cows

An original oil painting on board by very well-listed American Impressionist painter Edwards Charles Volkert (Cincinnati/New York/Connecticut, 1871 – 1935). The painting depicts a herd of cows grazing on a grassy hillside, as the tree lined meadow stretches out behind them. The painterly image is rendered in rich, saturated color, reminiscent of a sunny day. This piece is unsigned. Presented in a gold tone wood frame wtih a beige linen liner, ready to hang with a wire.
Volkert was born in Cincinnati to German parents. He spent a portion of his career serving as President of the Bronx Artist Guild in New York, and later moved to the Old Lyme artist colony in Connecticut.
Condition
- craquelure along upper edge of painting. Light accretion to painting surface. Stains to linen liner and minor wear to frame.
