Early 20th Century Mission Brass Birdcage by Hendryx with O.L. & Co. Stand
Item Details
An early 20th century Mission brass birdcage by Hendryx with an O.L. & Co. stand. The wire cage features an overhanging, slanted roof with a top-mounted, triangular hanger above a flared base with a pull-out tray. There are two hinged doors with heart-shaped cutouts and a vertical-sliding, wire door leading to an interior with a wooden, ring-form perch and a small, porcelain feeder. The cage can be removed from the base by unhooking three bent-wire clasps. The underside of the base is embossed ‘Hendryx’ and the porcelain feeder is marked ‘Germany’. Also included is a brass, tabletop stand with a scrolled arm ending in a round, weighted base. The base terminal is marked ‘OL & Co / N.Y.’ while the underside is embossed ‘L5’.
Condition
- to fair; some minor/expected surface wear and tarnishing; three of the bottom cage corners have separated solder joints; stand with some small cracks along bottom edge of base and a small ding; the weighted underside with surface rust.
