1770 Four-Volume "Commentaries on the Laws of England" by William Blackstone

An antique four-volume set of books, titled Commentaries on the Laws of England by William Blackstone (English, 1723-1780). Based on lectures given by the author at the University of Oxford, these volumes provide a detailed overview of ‘the Study, Nature, and Extent, of the Laws of England.’ Book one is dedicate to ‘the Rights of Persons’, book two to ‘the Rights of Things’, book three to ‘Private Wrongs’, and book four to ‘Public Wrongs’. They were published in 1770 (fourth edition) by Oxford and printed at the Clarendon Press. They have leather bindings with tooled accents.

- boards are partially detached, with front cover of fourth volume hanging on by a thread and with a detached endpaper; bindings have scattered scratches and scuffs with flaking leather and small losses throughout; wear/losses to corners; losses to spine labels; toning and foxing to paper.
