An antique mahogany transitional Empire chest. This American made mahogany veneer chest of drawers from circa 1840-60, is a transitional design mainly having elements of the Empire style and just a few from the Rococo Revival style; having two small drawers setback on the top, each being veneered in figured crotch mahogany, with chamfered corners and applied half turnings at the veneered top; and below the main veneered top are the three graduated drawers, each having book matched crotch mahogany veneer, all between the chamfered corners with applied half turnings under the top, with beaded moldings at the bottom of the chamfered corners and continuing across the top of the scrolled apron between the scrolled bracket feet. All drawers with turned mahogany knobs. Unmarked.

Condition

- minor scuffs and rubs around the edges of the drawers, scuff on the front center top edge of the top, missing beads form the molding on the lower right chamfered corner.
