"Mr. Vanderbilt's House and Collection" Art Folio Set

An 1887 antique set of eight hardcover folio volumes, titled Mr. Vanderbilt’s House and Collection. Illustrated with 117 plates as well as numerous other engravings and illustrations, it displays the contents of wealthy 19th century businessman William Vanderbilt’s ‘Brownstone Twins’ home on New York City’s Fifth Avenue, including his art collection. The work is divided into eight sections (out of an original ten, with only Vol. VII and VIII missing) with hardcover boards, plus some loose pages, and is contained in a wood crate. This is the ‘Holland Edition’, published by George Barrie of Philadelphia, and numbered 614 out of a limited edition of 1000. A hand-written note from the publisher to the original buyer, Cincinnati tobacco tycoon Napoleon DuBrul, is included.
