1888 "L'Eau-Forte" Folio of Etchings
Item Details
An 1888 antique art folio, titled L’Eau-Forte (French for ‘Strong Water’, i.e. the acid used in the etching process), with etchings by various artists, collected by M.K. Halevy. It features etched reproductions of paintings by various great artists, each with a tissue paper guard and a text description on the facing page. The work is bound in a beautiful decorative hardcover with elaborate gilt designs and maroon felted fabric strips with gilt lettering. Published by George Barrie of Philadelphia, this is the ‘Japan Edition’, limited to 675 copies, with this volume numbered 27.

Condition
- the cover boards are detached from the spine at the hinges, but held together by the cloth strips. The pages are loose in the folio and have varying degrees of edge wear. Some pages may be out of order.
