Item Details
An ornately carved wooden chess and backgammon set. These black and brown figural chessmen can be stored inside the hinged octagonal game board, which also incorporates carrying handles. The top or outside of the case features a chessboard, and the underside or inside a backgammon board; both sides are bordered with elaborate carved decoration incorporating floral and foliate scroll motifs. This piece has no apparent maker’s marks.
Condition
- 1" chip to game board along outer border; marks and discoloration; black marker to each foot on underside of board; includes all sixteen chessmen; does not include checkers.
