Collection of Mark Coomer Serigraphs on Boards of Genre Scenes

Item Details

A collection of five serigraphs on boards of genre scenes, by listed artist Mark Coomer (1914-2004). Featured in this grouping are simplified renderings of storefronts, Meso American idols and architecture as well as a portrait of Johann Sebastian Bach, the German composer. All prints are signed in plate to a lower corner and some contain titles. Presented without frame as loose works.

Born in Bay City, Michigan, Mark Coomer studied art in Chicago and Detroit before eventually settling in Arizona. He is known for his paintings and serigraphs, often depicting street patioscapes and urban city scenes. Coomer did almost all of his own printing, limiting his editions to 100. His preferred ground for his prints was masonite board, which combined with the permanent nature of his oil-based inks, were advertised as “washable”. Coomer exhibited his paintings and limited edition serigraphs nationally, and many can be found in private collections and institutions including the Chicago Art Institute; Challis Galleries, Laguna Beach, California; and The West and Walter-Bimson Western Art Collection housed at the University of Arizona Museum of Art.
