An oil painting on canvas attributed to well-listed American artist George Washington Nicholson (1832-1912). This painting depicts an old-fashioned windmill at the edge of a forest and on the bank of a lake, with two figures conversing out front. A large, open sky is painted overhead. The work is unsigned and attributed to the artist and given the title Windmill on a label to the verso, as well as on a biographical page included with the work. It is presented in a gold tone, wood frame with floral cartouche molding and other scrolling ornamentation.
Condition
- stretcher marks; craquelure throughout painted area; nicks and scratches around the frame; cracks in the gesso molding throughout the frame; pieces of the gesso molding fallen off in lower right corner; discoloration to verso.
