Charles Webber Original Antique Oil Painting on Canvas

Item Details

An original antique oil painting on canvas mounted to a board backing by very well-listed American artist Charles T. Webber (Ohio, 1825 – 1911). The painting depicts three figures in simple clothing sitting in a drab interior space with wide wooden floorboards, neutral-toned walls, and hand-made baskets and chairs. The painting is signed in brown to the lower right. It is presented in a wooden frame with cast surface embellishments, gold-tone and off-white finish, white linen lining, and a hanging wire. A plaque with the artist’s name and birth/death dates is attached to the frame’s base.

Webber began painting as a young child and supposedly received very little, if any formal training. His career sprang roots in Cincinnati in the mid 1850s where he found work tinting photographs. Webber went on to open his own gallery and continued to paint, becoming known for his portraits, landscapes, and historical scenes.
