A large Indian Agra area rug. This wool rug is finely hand-knotted in a palette of black, burgundy, cornsilk, and pale emerald. It features an allover design of large-scale palmettes, elaborate lancet leaves, and vines over a black field. The field is framed by six borders, including a wide main border grounded in burgundy, featuring an ornate herati pattern of meandering palmettes and leaves. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at each end with off-white wool warp fringe. It is unlabeled.
