Early 20th Century Heintz "Science" Sterling on Bronze Bookends
Item Details
A pair of early 20th century Science sterling on bronze bookends by Otto Heintz Art Metal Shop (active from 1875 until February 11, 1930). These bronze pieces have rectangular shapes with chamfered corners, featuring sterling silver overlays depicting a single gazelle running across a savanna flatland flanked by acacia trees. Each bookend is engraved, ‘Rita’ and lined on the underside with a red felt-like fabric. The bases are stamped, “Sterling on Bronze, Pat. Aug.27.12” along with the Heintz Art Metal Shop diamond-shaped maker’s mark.
Condition
- surface wear including scratches, scuffs, and tarnish; both engraved “Rita” to interior sides; three letter monogram on one bookend.
