A late 19th century bronze sculpture by Barbedienne Foundry. This sculpture depicts Grecian tragedy playwright Sophocles standing contrapposto. The sculpture is balanced on an integrated base titled ‘Sophocles’ on the front, incised ‘F. Barbedienne Fondeur’ on the top, and marked with an Achille Collas réduction méchanique seal along the side. The work is also etched with a casting number to the underside.

Condition

- hole patches on back of cloak; seal line horizontally along center; wear to patina on back of cloak and bucket.
