1844 Pavel Fedorovich Sazikov Russian 875 Silver Breakfront Box with Buck Figure

Item Details

An 1844 Russian silver box by Pavel Fedorovich Sazikov of St. Petersburg, who held the Imperial Warrant during the reign of Nicholas I. This breakfront box features a serpentine form with a central keyhole and curved, pointed edges rising above four claw feet. The exterior is decorated with applied acanthus and buck motifs accented by geometric trim. It’s lid is hinged and adorned with a stylized figurine depicting a buck with its head bowed. The underside is marked by Pavel Fedorovich Sazikov followed by assay master Andrey Antonovich Kovalsky circa 1844, an 84 standard mark and a St. Petersburg city mark, as well as the Imperial Warrant mark. The piece was most likely crafted in St. Petersburg before being sent to Moscow to be assayed. The approximate weight is 19.980 ozt and the piece is presented with a working key.
