Antique Singing Bird Cage Automaton

Item Details

An antique singing bird cage automaton, circa early 20th century. The brass, wire cage features a dome top with a ring hanger housing a red- and black-feathered bird on a foliate-entwined perch. The round, floral-embossed base has a winding knob and a sliding lever, which activates the bird’s movement and singing. The cage rises on three ball feet and it is unmarked.

Condition

- to fair; some minor surface wear to cage; dusty; when tested, the singing/chirping plays clearly and the head turns; the beak and tail feathers do not move.
