Charcoal on paper
A charcoal drawing on paper, titled Minna. This drawing, which is dated 1845, depicts a Classically rendered portrait of a woman in profile, who looks onward with a slight smile on her face. She is adorned with a harvested headdress composed of what appears to be wheat, which frays to the edges. The subject is rendered with soft gradations of black and white charcoal, as well as clustered linework. To the lower margins is a handwritten title and monogrammed signature reading ‘E. S.’. The loose drawing is presented in a plastic sleeve.
Condition
- discolorations and marks to paper; some foxing particularly to verso; dried tape residue to edges; minor tears and to edge; slight mothball odor to paper.
