Item Details
Graphite on paper
A graphite drawing on paper by well-listed artist David Walker (c. 1950-c. 1980). This drawing depicts an abstracted figure made of curved and enlarged shapes. The drawing is signed by hand to the lower right corner and dated 1977. The work is also housed in a wooden frame under matboard and glass.
David Walker was an American artist who was most prolific during the 1970s and early 1980s. He was inspired by the German Expressionist movement and artists such as Kathe Kollwitz (1867 – 1945). Like many Expressionists, Walker focused on “fringe” subjects outside of mainstream culture. Keeping a sketchbook with him at all times, Walker was drawn to capturing the melancholy, isolation, and suffering of New York City life. Drawing and painting daily, Walker left over 300 works of art upon his death in the late 1980s.
