M.B. Oil Painting of a Woman Reading the Paper
Item Details
An oil painting on board of a woman reading in bed by an artist appearing to sign the work ‘M.B.’ This piece is rendered with thin washes of color and depicts the blonde figure in a white nightgown, sitting upright in bed to read the newspaper. The loosely-painted piece includes the lacy canopy of the figure’s bed along its upper edge, letting the viewer feel as if they are present in the room with her, and is signed in red to its lower right corner. The work is mounted in an ornately-molded gold tone frame and includes a wire to its verso for hanging.
Condition
- panel has small openings and cracks; paint has very fine cracks throughout; frame has surface wear consistent with age; areas of ornamentation missing or loose; some previous repairs to ornamentation.
