An antique turn-of-the-century original oil painting on academy board by well-listed American artist Charles Franklin Pierce (1844 – 1920). Best known for his plein-air paintings of livestock and the bucolic country life of rural New England, this painting finds Pierce casting is focus upon an autumnal forest landscape. A trickling stream works its way through a rocky river bed under a dense wall of vibrant red and orange foliage. The trees rise and arc, forming a partial canopy over the water. The work is signed in the lower left corner. It is presented in a gilded wood frame with a hanging wire mounted to the verso.

- frame has surface wear consistent with age, chips and scratches to edges and corners; nail holes around perimeter.
