An antique hand-knotted Kurdish Bijar wool area rug. This rug is rendered in a muted palette of indigo, terracotta, ivory, sepia, sage, and azure. The abrashed indigo-colored field features an all-over unique herati pattern with added bird motifs. Framing the field is a main carnation meander border with sawtooth, diamond, barber pole, and geometric patterned guard borders. Finishing the rug are overcast selvedges and a natural warp wool and goat hair fringe to the ends. The piece is unlabeled.
