A limited edition lithograph on paper titled Bar Mitzvah by Yossi Stern (Israel; 1923 – 1992). The work depicts an older man teaching a boy to read the Torah for his upcoming Bar Mitzvah. The work is signed and numbered 217 of an edition of 250 in graphite to the lower margin. It is presented matted under glass in a gold-toned wooden frame with wire hanger to the verso.
Hungarian artist and Holocaust survivor Yossi Stern was known as ‘the painter of Jerusalem’. He received his formal art training at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design and the Royal Academy of Art in London. Stern particularly focused on portraying images of the ‘new Jew’ or the modern Jew. Also known for his illustrations, he produced for a number of newspapers, books and publications in Israel. For more than 20 years, he was a professor of graphic arts at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design.
