An acrylic painting on paper by Color Field painter Harold Feist (American/Canadian, b. 1945), executed in June of 1979. Rendered in the center of the paper an abstracted color wheel with planes colors in pie shaped forms and simple colors. Signed and dated to the lower right, ‘H. Feist 6/79.’ The work remains unmounted and unframed.
Harold Feist was born in 1945 in San Angelo, Texas and spent much of his life in Toronto where he currently resides. He received his BFA with honors from the University of Illinois, Champaign, Illinois in 1967 and his MFA from the Maryland Institute, College of Art, Baltimore, Maryland in 1969. Feist spent any years teaching as well at several universities and schools including the Maryland Institute, College of Art, Baltimore; Alberta College of Art, Calgary; University of Regina; Mount Allison University, Sackville NB; University of Guelph. His wok reflects the ideas of fellow color field artists such as Friedel Dzubas, Jules Olitski, Jack Bush, William Perehudoff, Kenneth Noland and more.
