An acrylic painting on canvas titled Deep Blue II by Bill Kort (Canadian, b. 1943), dedicated to Lucy Baker and executed in Spring of 2002. Thick pieces of cut and painted canvas fold over one another with shimmering, vibrant tones and pigments, many with added glitter. The acrylic gel paint has a thick, heavy consistency creating a focus on the relationship between color and form. The work remains unframed.

Bill Kort’s influence comes from contemporary Canadian color field artists such as William Perehudoff, Jack Bush and Dorothy Knowles. On the verge of color field and abstract expressionism, Kort’s style appears with consistencies in abstract expressionism and New New painting.
