Jeffrey Damberg Oil Painting on Canvas After Vincent van Gogh

Item Details

Provenance
The Lucy Baker and Kenworth Moffett Collection of New New Group Painters

An oil painting on canvas portrait after Vincent van Gogh by Jeffrey Damberg (American, b. 1952), executed in 1990. The painting is after Vincent’s Self-Portrait (Dedicated to Paul Gauguin) executed in September 1888. The intense colors work with the impasto of the brush to allow the colors to flow expressively. Signed and titled to the verso. Presented in a gilt and gesso wood Louis XIV style frame with a linen frame liner.

Jeffrey Damberg is well known for his realistic portraits and often dog-headed portraits, many in the style of this example. He studied at the University of Connecticut, the Art Students League in New York, and studied panting with Robert Brackman at Lyme Academy of Fine Arts in Connecticut where we won a full working scholarship.
