A 19th century oil painting on canvas of a portrait of a gentleman. This well-rendered painting depicts a man in 18th century clothing, featuring a red and beige jacket with silver tone embellished motifs, a black bowtie and curled hair. He sits attentively with a slightly open mouth, emerging from the dark background in a chiaroscuro technique. The unsigned painting is presented in a gold tone wooden frame featuring beaded motifs with hanging wire to the verso. A brass tone lamp is affixed to the top leg of the frame verso and is untested.

Condition

- small but noticeable hole to center of canvas on the subject’s face; signs of minor to moderate in-painting, particularly on the subject’s coat and background; craquelure present throughout surface; staining and discoloration to canvas verso; lamp untested. Canvas has been removed from original stretcher bars and re-stretched over newer bars. Canvas has been patched to the verso.
