A carved wood relief sculpture of a forest scene with wolves by contemporary Polish-born artist Janusz Obst (b. 1946). This horizontal narrative features an imaginative depiction of running wolves scattered throughout the scene. A figure to the left, whose face and body are wrapped in cloth, plays the violin. To the lower right is a rustic figure in high action, riding skis. The entire composition is filled with undulating textural surfaces rendered in various degrees of relief. The artist’s signature is carved to the lower left, and the artist’s business card is attached to the verso.

Condition

- dirt and dust collected throughout crevices; minor scratches throughout surface.
