A Surrealist oil painting on canvas of figures at a table by listed Italian artist Mario D’Elia (1922-2004). This work features a gathering of five androgynous figures seated at a long table. The four outer figures wear matching red gowns with black hats, while the central figure wears a black gown and a magenta cap. All figures are portrayed with angular, spindly features and similar faces. The work is signed ’D’Elia’ to the lower right. It is presented in a lemon gilt wood frame with a red painted liner. A stamp from Wes Lee Frames is present to the verso.
Condition
- small brown stains scattered throughout painting; small dent present in upper central area of painting; wood stretcher is pushing against upper left area of composition causing dent marks; rippling along canvas edges; craquelure throughout painting; considerable wear to frame includes stains, finish loss, discoloration, and scratches scattered throughout.
