An Orientalist watercolor painting on paper of a harem interior by well-listed Italian artist Umberto Cacciarelli (1880-1910). Portrayed with intricate detail, this work features the inside of an elaborate harem; a man and woman smoke hookah and play chess, surrounded by various Middle-Eastern commodities. The work is signed ‘U. Cacciarelli Roma’ to the lower right. It is presented under glass in an elaborate gilt and gesso frame with foliate moulding.

Condition

- some stains and smudge marks present throughout woman’s face; some toning and color fading throughout painting; some wear in frame includes scratches, stains, small chips, and small spots of finish loss scattered throughout.
