An antique sterling silver picture frame circa 1888 by London silversmiths William Comyns & Sons. This baroque style frame features an oval center with a beaded inner border and houses a photograph of a young Victorian boy. The frame is embellished with openwork shell, scroll and floral motifs with angel figures to either side and the back of the piece has a fabric-lined wood easel stand. The piece includes a ‘W.C’ maker’s mark, a sterling standard mark, a London city mark, and an ‘N’ for 1888 and a Queen Victoria duty mark. The total approximate weight is 1.170 ozt.
Condition
- surface wear including scratches and tarnish; the fabric on the easel back is worn and ripped; the wood shows wear; the hand of one side figure is broken off.
