An antique Simpson, Hall, Miller & Company Ladies of the Modern Maccabees sterling silver souvenir spoon. The Ladies of the Modern Maccabees was founded in Muskegon, Michigan in 1886 and is a section of the Knights of the Modern Maccabees who were a fraternal organization founded in 1878. The Ladies’ division began as a local club and didn’t gain permission for state-wide recognition until 1888. The spoon features the order’s symbol and initials on the handle with a depiction of the Mother Ward Home on the spoon bowl and the date March 24th, 1886. The spoon has an approximate weight of 0.490 ozt and bears the Simpson, Hall, Miller & Company ‘S’ with the knight helmet above on the back of the handle.
