A Persian area rug. This wool rug is hand-knotted in a palette of cream, midnight blue, camel, and sapphire, with prominent crimson and ivory highlights. It begins with a round starburst medallion grounded in cream, sapphire, and ivory. The medallion rests on a contoured, midnight-blue field with deep, cream-colored spandrels. Filling the spandrels, field, and medallion are palmettes, leaves, flowers, and vines; the field features vases and bouquets tucked into spandrel nooks. The rug’s main border features a herati pattern incorporating palmettes, leaves, and flowers over camel. Selvedges are overcast; ends finish with tan wool warp fringe. Blue weft threads are visible on the underside. Unlabeled.
