A hand-knotted Persian Mashhad area rug. This wool rug features a scarlet red field with an intricate diamond medallion in tan, dark blue, pale blue, pink, green, ivory and orange. The field is populated with twining floral vines, lotus blossoms, and foliage patterns. Spandrels mirror the design of the central medallion. The field is framed by a compound series of borders; including a principal meandering palmette border. The rug is finished with cropped cotton warp fringe at either end.
