A 1997 watercolor painting on paper by contemporary Chinese-American artist Tsun Ming Chmielinski. The piece depicts a colorful fish in side profile, rendered in a palette of teal, red, purple, grey, yellow and green hues. The work is signed with a red artist’s seal to the lower right and dated ‘2/97’. It is matted in white and presented under glass in a wooden frame fitted with hanging wire to the verso.
Tsun Ming Chmielinski is a Chinese artist raised in Hong Kong. Chmielinski moved to the United States in the 1970s and has a BA from the University of Massachusetts and an Master’s degrees in business from Bentley University and Emerson College. She received art training at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and Massachusetts College of Art where she studied drawing and painting. Ming currently resides in Boston, Massachusetts. Her work holds influences from Chinese culture, particularly Sumi-e ink wash painting, as well as Western subjects including portraits and still life.
