1945 USAAF Rayon Escape Map of Japan and China Seas

A 1945 USAAF rayon escape map of Japan, the South China Sea, and the East China Sea. Between 1942 and 1945, the US Army Air Forces enlisted the help of the board game industry to print these durable, foldable maps for pilots or to be smuggled into prisoner camps to assist in escape from the area shown. The obverse of this two-sided rayon map is labelled ‘C-52 Japan and South China Seas’ and shows a split map of the Sea of Japan and the South China Sea. The reverse is labelled ‘C-53 East China Sea’ and depicts a single map of that body of water, with Japan to the north and the Philippines to the south.

- minor fraying to all edges, some staining to all four corners.
