African Style Batik of Village
Item Details
An African style batik of a village. This textile depicts a crowded arrangement of villagers clustered together, dressed in traditional, patterned clothing. They are seen collecting fruit, selling crops and congregating with one another near a curling tree. To the lower left corner of the composition is an artist signature appearing to read ‘P. Kangpu’. This batik is stapled onto a navy blue, carved wooden frame with hanging wire to the verso.
Condition
- some light wear to frame; textile is stretched on frame and is not totally taut; some marks to surface of textile; stiffness to lower edge due to textile process.
