Christopher J. Bocklage Quilted Batik Composition of a Tree
Item Details
A hand-quilted batik piece by a Christopher J. Bocklage. This piece uses wax resist batik dyeing to depict a fruiting apple tree with the sun on one side and the moon on the other. It is bordered with leaf motifs and quilted along the lines of the imagery. It is stretched over a wood frame and signed to the verso with the date ‘2-80’. The piece is wired for hanging.
Condition
- to poor; water damage to quilt; top and left side of frame have broken off; chipping to the rest of the frame; fabric is toned and faded; stains throughout, notably to lower right; fraying to areas of quilt; exposed quilt stuffing to the verso; some dust.
